How Women’s who have made significant contributions to space industry

Though women have been involved in space science from early days, their contributions are often overlooked.

This is especially true for the early years of rocketry and space exploration when women scientists like Katherine Johnson, Margaret Hamilton, and Sally Ride were instrumental in making NASA’s Mercury and Apollo programs successful. Yet their stories are seldom told.

That’s why it’s important to celebrate the accomplishments of these pioneering women. By telling their stories, we can inspire a new generation of girls to pursue careers in STEM. So let’s take a look at the amazing things these Indian women have done for the space sector.

Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla’s story is one of the most inspiring and jaw-dropping tales in modern history. As a woman from Indian origin, she was not just an astronaut but also served as a mission specialist and robotic arm operator for space shuttle Columbia. She was set on journeys that would lead to true fame – both personal and professional! She was an accomplished astronaut who made numerous contributions to the space sector. She was highly respected by her colleagues, and her death was a tragic loss for the whole world.

Sunita Williams

Sunita Williams is an inspiration to women’s everywhere. She was the second Indian woman in space, following Chawla’s footsteps and also spent time aboard ISS during her career as an astronaut which began with taking her first flight in 2006 for more than 195 days long while serving as engineer for many installation there! This amazing accomplishments haven’t stopped at just being outside our atmosphere though. She’s a powerhouse of the whole world with her achievements, but there is one thing that makes India relatable to everyone — food cravings in space. Samosas are one of her favorite dishes.

Ritu Karidhal

Ritu Karidhal who is popularly known as “Rocket Women of India”, is a scientist at ISRO who has worked on multiple space programs and contributed heavily as Deputy Operations Director for India’s Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan). The government of India approved the mission in August 2012, and after 18 months of preparation which included figuring out how they would achieve their goal within such tight limitations: “We didn’t know what we were doing but luckily everyone came together successfully! We used to brainstorm with the engineers, everyone would come even if they were off work. We often worked weekends on this project!” said Karidhal while reminiscing about her time working in orbit for the Mars Orbiter Mission. The young girl who would stargaze and collect newspaper clippings about NASA and ISRO projects is now a great scientist, dreaming of taking the benefits from space industry to every common people. She is one of the great inspirational women in India.

These are just a few of the many women who have made significant contributions to the space sector. Their stories are an inspiration to all of us, and they remind us that nothing is impossible. So let’s continue to celebrate the accomplishments of women in space, and let’s encourage young girls to pursue careers in science and engineering. We can’t wait to see what they will achieve!
